If you’ve come to the position where you know you need to renovate your bathroom then it can an exciting, yet sometimes a little stressful journey. Like any renovation there are so many things to consider, starting with whether can we live in the house during the renovation or do we need to live elsewhere for a period of time. Of course, the flow on from this is if you do need to move out, then how much of your house’s belongings need to be relocated?
The next major consideration is if this update needs to fit in with any other renovation. Are you also looking to update your kitchen, move any walls, change the floors, and so on? Depending on what else is required then you might need additional permits to be able to complete the work, and it usually makes more sense to apply for one permit to get everything done, than to have to repeat that process (and its associated costs) multiple times.
Looking at your bathroom itself the main elements that you’ll need to look at are:
- Shower/bath
- Toilet
- Sink
- Vanity /mirrors
- Tapware
- Floor tiles
- Wall tiles
- Lighting
- Ventilation
- Heating
Each one of these elements is an important consideration, but it’s worth keeping in mind that most renovations happen from the ground up. Because of this, you need to be mindful of the order in which things will need to be done, and if other areas of the renovation are likely to be impacted. For example, you wouldn’t likely be looking to have your vanity installed before the flooring was completed.
But you will also need to consider the best possible placement of these items that will allow the best flow and use of space. If you have limitations on the amount of space there are now some great inventions such as underfloor hydronic heating, or toilets with hidden cisterns. When you’re looking to maximise the amount of space available to you the extra little bit of space that items like this can afford can make all the difference.
There are also hydronic towel racks, which while not designed as room heaters, will actually also provide a great deal of heat to your bathroom, also whilst drying your towels at the same time (at an energy-efficient rate).
Considering all these components of a bathroom upgrade are essential to creating the right type of ambience in your renovation. Ensure you do your homework (which is probably how you found this article) and look for a reputable bathroom renovation expert.
