TVS Jupiter: All You Need to Know

Before you begin reading, you should know that the TVS Jupiter is among the bestselling two-wheelers in India. TVS scooters come with both internal combustion engines and electric motors. As you may know, they are also well-known in the country for producing mileage and performance bikes.
As far as the sales figures are concerned, the TVS Jupiter is the second-best-selling scooter after the Honda Activa.
The 110cc two-wheelers are undoubtedly the most preferred among Indian patrons—all thanks to their affordability, fuel efficiency, and low maintenance costs. So, below are a few things that you should know about the TVS Jupiter:

Engine and other Specifications
As mentioned earlier, the TVS Jupiter belongs to the 110cc segment. It’s the most preferred segment in the business of two-wheelers. You can check out the TVS bikes from that same segment on the autoX website. However, the indigenous bike manufacturer has built the TVS Jupiter on the company’s in-house-developed high-rigidity under-bone type. It supports a 109.7cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that churns out 7.77 bhp at 7,500 rpm and 8.8 Nm at 5,500 rpm. This engine works in tandem with a CVT gearbox in an automatic transmission.
For your reference, CVT stands for continuously variable transmission.

CVT units are pretty good, cost-effective, and mileage-friendly transmissions. However, one of their downsides includes the rubber-band effect. But that is found in four-wheelers. That said, it should be safe to say that two-wheelers might get the same rubber-band effect. However, automatic transmissions can be more expensive to repair than manual transmissions.
In addition, if you love the two-wheelers from TVS, especially Jupiter, then you should check out the Jupiter price on the autoX website.

Keeping the transmission aside, let’s talk about the suspension setup. The front has a telescopic hydraulic shock absorber, and the rear has a three-step adjustable type coil spring with a hydraulic damper. Given this setup, the TVS Jupiter will offer good rideability. These are city-oriented scooters; however, you can also make interstate journeys on this TVS Jupiter. That is why you might often see several two-wheelers making interstate journeys. You won’t have to worry even if you encounter sudden bumps from the potholes, as it can easily absorb them. But it is recommended to take a test ride as the riding experience can be subjective from person to person.
Overall, TVS Jupiter has proven not to let most owners lament the ride quality it offers.

Furthermore, this two-wheeler offers dual-drums and disc-drum setups as optional. It is tacit that disc brake(s) have a better braking performance than drum brakes. They increase safety, as they can stop the vehicle much earlier than the drum brakes do.

As for stability, the TVS Jupiter has a single-channel ABS. You can expect that type of ABS on the budget two-wheelers only. However, some scooters offer dual-channel ABS, but those two-wheelers are priced beyond Rs 1.5 lakh.

Now, let’s jump to the main bit: fuel efficiency. The TVS Jupiter’s mileage ranges between 50 km/l and 55 km/l. These are average mileage figures as per the owners’ feedback. One of the reasons behind these fuel-efficient BS6 bikes is the presence of fuel injection technology. The central government of India had ordered the two-wheeler manufacturers to utilise fuel-injection technology while producing the BS6 engines. Besides being fuel-efficient, it also offers linear power delivery in urban areas and hills as well. Moreover, BS6 engines with that technology also offer an easy cold-start without any lag. There are several advantages to having fuel-injected BS6 engines.

In addition, you can also check the TVS Jupiter’s track test done at Buddh International Circuit in 2021. Speaking of which, the autoX magazine is the only organisation in India that conducts an annual track day event to test the performance, comfort, and handling of all vehicles. From mass-market to performance vehicles, the autoX magazine tests everything by pushing the limits.

Now, let’s jump to the features offered by TVS Jupiter.

Features
This homegrown two-wheeler has a respectable number of features. Please note that the features mentioned here belong to the top model of the TVS Jupiter.
The top-of-the-line model has a fully analogue instrument cluster. Both the speedometer and the trip meter are analogues. Further, it has an analogue fuel gauge, a low fuel indicator, an electric start, etc. Considering the price of the top model, this bike should have had a semi-digital instrument cluster, a low engine oil indicator, and a low battery indicator. It also misses out on a tachometer, a standing alarm, a stepped seat, a digital clock, and mobile app connectivity, to name a few.

However, it has a pillion seat with a backrest, grabrails and footrests. In addition, there is a Malfunction Indication Lamp (MIL), an Econometer, a USB charging port, a Unique Pass-By switch, and a parking brake.
As for the illumination, the TVS Jupiter has a front LED light and a rear halogen light. The indicators, however, have bulbs. The front LED light doesn’t get LED DRLs. Further, the rider can enable the automatic headlights-on feature.
You can access the curated list of features and specifications on the autoX website.

Prices and Variants
TVS Motors sells Jupiter in three variants. The TVS Jupiter’s price starts at Rs 82,825 for the base model, the Drum, and goes up to Rs 89,625 for the top-of-the-line Disc variant. All are ex-showroom prices, New Delhi, as of January 2023.
