Why do dermatologists prescribe Aprezo 30 mg tablet?

Aprezo 30 mg is an oral medication, used to treat a certain type of arthritis – Psoriatic Arthritis. It is also used to treat a certain type of skin condition – moderate to Severe Plaque Psoriasis.

Aprezo (Apremilast) belongs to a class of drugs known as phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitors. For the treatment of psoriatic arthritis, it decreases pain and swelling and may help improve flexibility in the affected joints. For the treatment of plaque psoriasis, it may help to reduce the redness, thickening, and scaling of the skin that occurs with this condition.

What are the precautions for this tablet?

Before taking Aprezo medicine, it is important to tell your dermatologist if you:

  • Have ever had depression
  • Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed
  • Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
  • Have any other medical conditions, including kidney disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, liver disease, etc.
  • Are taking any medications, including those that you buy without a prescription, also called over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. Aprezo Apremilast Tablet may interact with some medicines, making them less effective.

How to take Aprezo 30 mg Tablet?

Take Aprezo tablet by mouth with or without food as directed by your healthcare professional, usually twice daily. The dosage depends on your medical condition and response to treatment. To reduce your risk of side effects such as upset stomach or diarrhea, your doctor may direct you to start this medication at a low dose and gradually increase your dose. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. Use this medicine regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time every day.

This medicine can start working in the first few weeks of treatment and patients usually see therapeutic results within 12 to 16 weeks. Remember, each patient is unique and the results you see with Aprezo may not be similar to other patients.

Which drugs or supplements may interact with Aprezo Apremilast Tablets?

Most medications can be taken safely with Apremilast 30 mg. Some medicines such as Anticonvulsant/Anti-Seizure Drugs (such as carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin, primidone),  St. John’s Wort, and Rifamycins (such as rifampin, rifabutin), should not be taken while you are taking Aprezo, as they may reduce its effectiveness.
